For this project I worked off of the prompt “pearlescent”. While only some of the images are truly “pearlescent”, this prompt allowed me to experiment with subject matter and lighting in a new way. I searched through my bathroom for various gels and conditioners and such and, with my macro lens, took images of those gels and such. Additionally, I found a lamp which I used to illuminate my subjects so that I could shoot at a faster shutter speed without sacrificing a lower ISO. I don’t tend to shoot in black and white with my digital camera, so this was a somewhat new experience in that regard. However, I think it produced more interesting results because it adds to the obscurity of the images. Overall, I’m quite happy with the results. Particularly because I think there is a nice variety among the images both in subject matter and composition. However, I do wish that I had used a larger variety of materials in my bathroom. Potentially, by searching more throughout my house I could have found even more interesting subjects for my images. I also wish that I had shot from a greater variety of angles. While I don’t think my images are particularly repetitive, I think I could have potentially produced even more interesting results if I shot from more angles.
