For this project, I worked off of the prompt “Icarus” and used that prompt as a way to explore cloud photography which provided a nice reason to leave the house while maintaining social distancing during the pandemic. For the most part I’m happy with the final product and really enjoyed exploring cloud photography particularly because it is much more varied than I expected. Usually in my photography there is quite a bit of variety in terms of subject matter, but I really enjoyed restricting myself to exclusively capturing clouds and the sky. Additionally, I think that having the images share so many commonalities draws attention to their differences. In retrospect, I wish I had experimented more with the editing because, despite being overall happy with the final product, I think I could have produced more visually interesting content. More specifically, I think experimenting with cropping my images to a greater degree could have improved some of my images. Another aspect of the project I greatly enjoyed was organizing my images into diptychs, triptychs. My main goal was to organize the images according to color, composition, the types of cloud, and the overall tone. Additionally, I tried, perhaps unsuccessfully, to create some form of progression through the organization. Whether it is the appearance of clouds shifting and moving or growing in size, I think it adds another layer to the images.
