Collage

The most challenging part of this project was limiting myself to working within the constraints of the prompted medium: collage. Even though the prompt is extremely broad, I felt a pull to that traditional magazine cut out and glue style of collage. While the project started this way, I was able to overcome this and create a more creative piece. I am quite happy with how it turned out. Creating a project that was entirely sculptural was new to me, and between this piece and my previous piece, I have started to really enjoy the process of making sculptural work. Because my time was more restricted for this project, I had to limit the scope of my project. As a result of this limited scope, I had less contrasting elements, but I was able to dedicate more time to certain elements which otherwise may have been underdeveloped. Creating the wire band required a few class periods, which meant sacrificing time which could be spent elsewhere on the piece. However, I am quite happy I spent the time working on this band because this creative risk resulted in my favorite element of the piece. With this project I didn’t really establish any concrete expectations before I began. Rather, my expectations morphed as the project developed and expanded. However, I did have some expectations of the quality of the finished product, and in comparison to those I am quite happy with how it turned out. Because of how this project developed naturally, I didn’t have any plan or idea of what the project might entail. As a result, it was difficult to manage and think about my time before I worked on an element of it. Instead, I worked as efficiently as I could to ensure that I would manage my time to some extent.
