In this painting finding the balance between abstract expressionism and identifiable elements was a constant challenge for me. While it originated as a boring and generic landscape, I personally find it to be much more interesting now. Furthermore, I think that the textural elements work well to create a more dynamic product. While I have my own regrets with this painting. The most consistent creative choice I made in the production of this painting was the use of wood scraps as brush. This choice gave the painting the texture which made it more interesting. Most of this painting was very spontaneous for me, so many of the creative risks that I took were with the drastic changes I would make to the painting in a moment. The large pink streak for example was a creative risk which drastically altered the entire composition of the painting. While I wish I worked on it longer, this painting served more as a break from my other project for me so my expectations were never raised particularly high. Despite this, I am at least happy with the textural elements of the painting, and it is something I want to explore more. I started this halfway about halfway through the allotted time for the painting project because it was my second painting. As a result, I tried to rush through this painting which meant less planning and more spontaneous choices.
